Episode Highlights

[02:41] Meet Jamie

●       Jamie started her first business when she was 15.

●       Currently, she’s focused on lifestyle design and building something that you’re passionate about without getting weighed down by the minutiae of entrepreneurship.

●       Her journey has been full of ups and downs, and she has gone through a life transformation since her teenage years.

[04:19] Becoming an Entrepreneur at 15

●       While working at a company that replaces automotive parts, Jamie noticed that the old parts were being discarded.

●       Being environmentally conscious, she fished the old automotive parts out of the dumpster and sold them on eBay for 99 cents each.

●       Getting many purchases introduced her to passive income.

●       The experience shifted her mindset on entrepreneurship, inspiring her to follow her passions and make a mark on the world.

●       Once she realized there was value in the discarded parts, she negotiated to buy the whole warehouse.

[07:31] Her Educational Journey

●       She met her fiancé at Creighton University in Nebraska.

●       Jamie was homeschooled for the last couple of years in high school and didn’t go to college until she met her fiancé.

●       She was inspired by his journey, so she took a few courses. That experience reminded her why she didn’t take that path before.

●       Even if she didn’t go through a traditional educational route, Jamie invests a lot in personal development and self-discovery.

●       Anytime she wanted to learn something, she would hire a skilled expert and learn directly from them.

[09:27] Her Entrepreneurial Journey

●       Jamie tried the traditional nine-to-five job path for a while.

●       She worked as an aftermarket manager at a local car dealership, which came with ridiculous working hours.

●       Listen to the full episode to find out what a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon had to do with Jamie quitting her job and moving to Florida!

[11:15] What Happened to Her Automotive Business

●       She still runs the automotive business, working on repurposing used car parts.

●       Jamie predicts that the popularity of the items will only keep increasing over time.

[12:39] Is An Entrepreneur Born Or Made?

●       She believes being an entrepreneur is born inside you, but there’s room for growth.

●       It’s still possible for someone who wasn’t born with an entrepreneurial mindset, but it would require a bigger shift.

●       Risks always come with entrepreneurship. It requires betting on and believing in yourself.

[13:57] Believing in Yourself

●       Follow your path and believe in what you’re doing. Jamie always knew she was meant for something more.

●       If you keep pursuing what you’re working for, you’ll be able to reach the end goal.

●       Her family initially didn’t support her journey until she showed them her eBay balance.

●       Most people look for instant financial validation while entrepreneurs, including mompreneurs, can assess the situation and predict where their business is going.

Jamie: “Entrepreneurs, we see what’s happening. We understand that maybe the finances aren’t right where they should be at the moment but that in the future, we understand what we’re working for and what we’re building where other people don’t.”

[15:48] Keeping Your Eyes on the Goal

●       Her parents saw her working every night, but they still did not understand her business.

●       It was difficult not to have their support, but Jamie used it as motivation to do better.

Simon: “There are two different types of people: those that see the end solution—the goal, and those that see the things that stand in their way.”

●       Her biggest setback as an entrepreneur was the shiny object syndrome.

●       It’s easy to spread yourself too thin with those obstacles if you’re not careful and making strategic moves to reach your end goal.

[18:15] Wearing Too Many Hats

●       The system has programmed us to work long hours daily.

●       As an entrepreneur, sitting down like you’re at a nine-to-five is problematic because you’re doing a lot of stuff that shouldn’t require your attention.

●       After getting pregnant, she realized that she should stop wearing all of the hats in her business and which ones she should spend her energy on.

[19:36] Working Toward True Freedom

●       The “Moms Freedom Maker” podcast came from breaking free from the normal she created for herself, which prevented her from growing and being present for things that matter.

●       Be clear on what having a business would look like to you. Don’t become a slave to your own business.

Jamie: “So if you're working like you’re self-employed, then are you really living up to why you started this or why you wanted this type of freedom?”

●       Build something that gives you the freedom to do the things that are meaningful to you.

●       Many startup entrepreneurs get stuck in the build phase by never removing themselves from the heavy workload.

[22:45] Becoming a Parent

●       She’s thankful to be a mother. But mompreneurs’ lives are not without their challenges.

●       In the beginning, she found herself holding on to her old schedule.

●       Her son has taught her that family is the most important thing and changed her mindset to prioritize time with family over her business.

[25:25] Finding Balance

●       Jamie believes in work-life flow. The flow state is being in the zone and serving your purpose.

●       It’s about learning how to take inspired action rather than forced action.

●       As opposed to time-blocking her schedule, Jamie does things immediately whenever and wherever inspiration comes to her.

●       With life, flow is about making today count.

●       She believes that balance is fluid and constantly changing. But once you grasp the sense of flow, you’ll start to feel that balance.

[27:28] Jamie’s Advice on Shifting Your Mindset

●       Check your reality. If you don’t acknowledge a problem, you won’t feel the need to fix it.

●       Be clear on why you want the things that you want.

●       Know where you are and where you want to be. Then, make an action plan on doing better.

[27:28] Learning That Material Things are not the Key to Life

●       Her parents didn’t give her the means to buy the same things as her materialistic school peers.

●       So, she bought nice things once she had her own money.

●       She was caught up in her present wants, but she realizes now she didn’t need any of those.

●       A part of the transformation process is learning to stop working for things that aren’t essential to our happiness.

[28:55] The Biggest Life Transformation for Mompreneurs

●       Having a baby was Jamie’s biggest transformation; it showed her what’s important.

●       Moving from Maui and selling almost all their things made her realize that life was never about material things.

●       The time they spent together, the memories, and the transformation are what matter.

Jamie: “It’s how do we take that transformation and the people that we've become with us throughout the rest of our life and wherever we go.”

[34:59] Focusing On What Matters

●       Jamie works with overworked and overwhelmed people and mompreneurs to help them achieve the work-life flow and find freedom — whatever that means for them.

●       Her process has three phases: clarify, streamline, and flow.

●       Tune in to the full episode to hear Jamie discuss these phases in depth!

[34:59] Jamie’s Parting Advice

●       Live the life you want.

●       Don’t live up to other people’s expectations for you.

●       Follow your dreams and your heart.

Jamie: “At the end of your life, the only thing you would ever regret is the fact that you didn’t play full out to who you should become."
